SupportLink SupportLink is a joint initiative of the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General Victim Services Secretariat with Ericsson Canada Inc. and Rogers AT&T Wireless. The program is designed to enhance the safety of individuals deemed to be at high risk of re-victimization for domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking crimes. Services are available to residents of the Middlesex County and the City of London. Objectives Increase the safety and mobility of individuals who are at risk of personal danger due to violence SupportLink Components Assisting the client in developing an intensive and personalized safety plan Eligibility Criteria Victims who are at risk of personal violence are eligible for a wireless phone provided that the following criteria are met: The situation has been reported to Police Services; The Service Network The SupportLink wireless phone is intended to provide timely access to 911 emergency services. The mobile phone can increase client mobility by providing a degree of added security during travel. It is important to understand the limitations of the pre-programmed phone, and to note that is solely an addition to existing mechanisms and strategies designed to enhance the safety of victims of violence. Safety planning is one such strategy; it is a vital intervention when reducing personal risk and increasing self-assurance. Neither the pre-programmed phone, nor a safety plan can guarantee personal safety, but together with existing services they can certainly improve the living situation for those at risk. Client Referral Clients are most often referred to the SupportLink program via community resource agencies such as police services, victim service programs, sexual assault centers, shelters, or any other agency that assists individuals who are at risk of personal violence.
